McKinsey Academy is a McKinsey Solutions-incubated start-up focused on advancing the state-of-the art in digital and blended learning and capability building. McKinsey Academy is looking to hire an exceptional Instructional Designer to join its team.

An Instructional Designer works with a project team, internal subject matter experts, and external vendors to develop engaging and efficacious content for digital courses. Our learning products target external business professionals across a range of functional as well as leadership and management related content.
We produce high-quality, self-paced online learning courses that take a "learn by doing" approach to building key skills. In addition, we're constantly engaged in developing new technology-enabled approaches to support learning, and work with our technology platform partners to push the boundaries in developing the world’s leading online professional education experience.
We offer a fun and stimulating work environment akin to the energetic atmosphere of a start-up, but housed within the context of a larger established company that has been active in the online learning space for over a decade.

Primary responsibilities of an Instructional Designer include:
■ Working closely with subject matter experts and clients to understand performance needs of the audience
■ Using source materials and interviews with subject matter experts to capture relevant information for course development
■ Applying adult learning principles to recommend design approaches and interactions that most effectively support specific performance objectives
■ Writing, editing, and managing content development at all stages of the lifecycle, enforcing quality standards, and adhering to deadlines
■ Working with designers, media practitioners, and vendors to create a final online course, including graphics, audio, video, expert interviews, simulations, and interactivities
■ Collaborating with project team members to identify and resolve issues, risks, and quality challenges
■ Contributing to the overall team-wide process and tool improvement efforts

The most important attributes of an Instructional Designer are:
■ An interest in, and passion for, the art and science of learning, development and human performance
■ Knowledge of learning strategies and processes
■ Ability to write with clarity and voice
■ Ability to engage in collaborative problem-solving with confidence

Fluency with Microsoft Office products (especially Word and PowerPoint) is essential. Additional skills that are not required but would be beneficial in this role: interviewing skills, dialogue-writing, technical writing, media production, familiarity with web-based software, and experience creating training materials.

■ Education: University degree, ideally in a communications-related or instructional design field; Masters degree preferred
■ Experience: experience in a technology-enabled instructional content development field
■ Knowledge: Deep knowledge of communication strategies and approaches; familiarity with learning approaches
■ Skills: Superior editing, writing, and critical reasoning skills; outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and presence; high intelligence and ability to quickly grasp range of complex business issues
