Support a young person’s academic and social success by becoming a Tutor-Mentor with PPL’s after-school youth programs! PPL’s youth programs match adult Tutor-Mentors 1:1 with PPL resident youth in grades K-8th. Pairs focus their time on structured literacy tutoring as well as enrichment activities such as games, crafts, and relationship-building.

Project for Pride in Living (PPL) is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering low-income families to become self-reliant through integrated services. Youth program takes place at one of PPL’s supportive housing sites which serves families transitioning from chronic homelessness.

Locations: North Minneapolis & South Minneapolis

Mondays & Wednesdays, either 4:30-6:30pm or 5:30-7:30pm

Training begins last week in September. School-year long commitment (Oct-mid May) required.
Ability to work independently and maintain consistent weekly attendance
Enthusiasm to learn alongside young people
Patience, understanding, and flexibility to adapt to each youth’s needs for the day
Commitment to empowering others by sharing your skills and knowledge
Experience with youth in grades K-8th helpful
Passion for working with youth from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
Interest in working with youth at varied levels of academic and social development
Ability to interact with parents/guardians to support youth success
