TEXTILE CENTER SHOP INTERNSHIP
Textile Center, a national center for fiber art for over 20 years, honors textile traditions, promotes excellence and innovation, and inspires widespread participation in fiber arts. Offering classes for all ages and skill levels, extraordinary exhibitions, an artisan shop, professional-grade dye lab, natural dye garden, and vast textile library, Textile Center is home to numerous fiber art guilds and is located just steps from the Prospect Park Green Line stop in Minneapolis.

Join us for a semester as a retail intern at this growing, member-based non-profit organization. During November and December, Textile Center Shop expands into the Joan Mondale flagship gallery, tripling its size and becoming the Holiday Gallery Shop, featuring over 100 fiber artists.
Shop and galleries are free and open to the public M-Th, 10-7, Friday and Saturday, 10-5. (Open Sundays in November and December, 12-4)

Retail Internship details:
Timing: Fall Semester, September 18 – December 17, 2017 (or extend to 12/30/2017)
Status: Paid, part-time, 15-20 hours per week
Hours: Flexible, a mix of weekdays, evenings, and weekend hours
Intern Experiences & Responsibilities:
Experience all aspects of running an independent retail store, including:

Visual Merchandising & Marketing: set up/take down of Holiday Gallery Shop, create displays, prepare signage, assist with events, post on social media, etc.
Inventory management: database maintenance, assist with consignment artists and their work, learn buying, pricing, inventory control, and prepare/review reports and analytics
Customer Service/Store Operations: visitor services, selling skills, sales forecasting, cash handling, supply upkeep, store/building opening and closing responsibilities
Qualifications:
• University of Minnesota Retail majors: Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
• Strong Analytical skills; experienced in Microsoft Office, proficient in Excel
• Interpersonal skills: Friendly, outgoing, professional demeanor
• Creative, flexible, and good design sense
• Previous customer service, cash handling, and POS system experience preferred
• Interest/experience in fiber arts a plus
