Job Title: Mental Health Consultant (Independent Contractor)

The Consultant works in collaboration with the Director and coordinates services with the Mental Health Coordinator. The Consultant provides direction and support in the area of Mental Health services and is responsible for guiding intervention in classrooms while ensuring compliance with Head Start Mental Health Performance Standards, Tennessee State Licensing regulations and all other applicable Federal, State and local regulations. The employee will work at various locations in order to provide services to children and families. The employee will be capable of operating modern office equipment. The employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, foul odors and other factors due to the breakdown of some equipment or systems. The employee shall adhere to the National Smoke Free Environment Policy Public Law 103-227, Pro-Children Act of 1994 and ACYG-PI_HS-95-04.

Essential functions of the job:
Conduct on-site mental health consultations that involve children, parents and program staff.
Offer guidance for children with atypical behavior or development that include written observations, recommendations for classroom management, developing Individual Behavior plans, and possible completion of Devereux Early Childhood Assessment- Clinical Form.
Participate in Team Meetings and Child Staffing’s, as appropriate.
Participate in the development of an IEP/IFSP, upon request.
Support and assist parents in accessing mental health resources within their communities including services to pregnant women.
Consult with pregnant women who are having mental health concerns.
Provide mental health training to parents and staff.
Ensure parental consent is obtained before any consultation occurs with an enrolled child.
Review and conduct mental health evaluations and or screenings as needed.
Identify and assist with training needs for all staff in the areas of mental health.
Assist in linking families and staff with local Mental Health Services for ongoing services.
Participate in group sessions for pregnant women and center staff as needed.
Work closely with mental health coordinator to provide mental health services to children, families and staff.
Participate in scheduled focus groups regarding behavior management.
Assist in the implementation of policies to limit suspension and expulsion as needed.
Adhere to Agency’s HS/EHS confidentiality policy, professional ethics and standards, demonstrating work habits which comply with Agency Personnel Policies and Procedures.
A minimum of a Licensed and/or Certified Masters Level Social Work degree (Required)
Doctorate Degree in the area of Mental Health or related field (Preferred)
Three years of experience working in early childhood or infant-child mental health (Required)
Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Bilingual (Preferred)
Satisfactory physical examination prior to beginning work and every three years thereafter.
Must possess a valid Driver’s License and current Automobile Liability Insurance.
Satisfactory criminal background check prior to hire and every 5 years thereafter. Drug testing as required.
Accessible to provide at least four days per month consistently throughout the program year, with the exception of Holiday months November, December and summer months.
Provide services at centers in the following counties as needed: Bedford, Coffee, Franklin, Giles, Hickman, Lawrence, Lewis, Lincoln, Marshall, Maury, Moore, Perry, Wayne Counties
