RePublic Schools is a network of high-performing public charter schools based in Nashville, TN and Jackson, MS with a mission to reimagine public education in the South and prepare all of our scholars to graduate from college. In addition to providing a world-class traditional academic curriculum, we empower our students to be change-makers by teaching them to code – starting in the 5th grade.

Despite the fact that our scholars come from traditionally underserved communities (approximately 85% identify as low-income, and nearly 95% as students of color), we have seen them defy the odds to achieve outstanding results. RePublic’s schools have scored in the top 5% of all open-enrollment public schools across the state of Tennessee for both student growth and absolute achievement – making ours the first (and only) charter schools in state history to achieve this dual distinction.

We are looking for dynamic, determined Resident Teachers to lock arms with our school teams in Nashville, TN for the 2019-20 school year. Deeply dedicated to the study of excellent instruction, Resident Teachers will spend a full year serving alongside outstanding Lead Teachers in RePublic's schools, learning the art of masterful instruction before stepping in to lead their own classroom the following academic year. What You’ll Do

To cultivate their instructional prowess and classroom leadership voice, RePublic’s Resident Teachers (RTs) will train with and be coached by RePublic’s most expert instructors. RTs will spend the year in one of RePublic’s schools in Nashville, where they will co-teach, work with small groups of scholars, provide coverage inside and outside of the classroom for teachers who are absent on a short- or long-term basis, and prepare to step in as the full-time teacher of record in any of RePublic’s schools as a Lead Teacher in the 2019-20 school year. RTs must be flexible around subject and grade level placement, and willing to serve as a Lead Teacher the year after their Residency program is complete in any RePublic school in the region.


RePublic’s Resident Teachers (RTs) will:

Commit to RePublic for at least two (but hopefully, many more!) years - one as a full-time Resident Teacher, and at minimum the subsequent year as a Lead Teacher in any of RePublic's schools in Nashville;
Develop their instructional lens, classroom management skills, and leadership voice by spending the first year in residency in a RePublic school training with, receiving feedback from, being coached by, and co-teaching with an experienced RePublic Lead Teacher;
Assist Lead Teachers in any capacity needed during initial placement to drive student outcomes, including, but not limited to, providing targeted intervention or remediation to small groups of students, grading assignments, communicating with families, etc.;
Step in to provide critical additional coverage inside and outside of the classroom that enable our schools to function when staff members are absent on a short or long-term basis;
Lead students to meet high behavioral and academic expectations by implementing RePublic's school-wide culture systems with consistency, with a true "sweat the small stuff" mindset that creates strong school culture;
Participate fully in school-based and network-wide professional development to hone instructional practice and develop expertise across content areas;
Participate as a full-time staff member of their placement school in all school activities, including activities that are required for all staff that may fall outside the bounds the school day (i.e. Family Nights, student Honor Celebrations, etc.);
Lead small-group leveled reading with scholars in their placement school; and
Complete other activities as requested by their Lead Teachers and/or the school-based leadership team.
Who You Are
NOTE: Former teaching or student teaching experience a plus, but not required.

Have a bachelor’s degree, with GPA high enough to ensure eligibility for certification (if not certified)

Be hungry for feedback and energized by the steep learning curve that comes with learning "on-the-job" to be a phenomenal educator and classroom leader;
Have experience setting and achieving ambitious qualitative and/or quantitative goals;
Demonstrate strong organizational skills, written and verbal communication skills, an ability to meet deadlines, prioritize effectively, and independently manage time wisely; and
Believe passionately in RePublic’s mission, values, and educational model, and demonstrate a deep commitment to empowering underserved students to close historic achievement gaps.
Teacher Certification Program Requirements + Partnership With Relay GSE
Resident Teachers in Nashville must either (a) have a valid Tennessee teaching license, (b) have an active teaching license in another state with reciprocity that transfers to TN, or (c) be willing and eligible to pursue and finance the costs of obtaining a teaching license/certification while teaching simultaneously full-time.
If not already certified to teach, Resident Teachers must apply to, be accepted to, enroll in, and remain in good standing with the Relay Graduate School of Education (GSE). Relay is the preferred certification and professional development partner for the RePublic Residency Program.
