Relay Graduate School of Education is looking for talented, mission-driven, curious, passionate people across all majors eager to launch a career in teaching. Through the Relay Teaching Residency you will join a selective cohort of diverse, talented future teachers committed to making a profound social impact and educational justice. An innovative two-year residency program that provides aspiring teachers with a supportive, gradual introduction to the teaching profession. The program provides mentorship and robust coursework, resulting in a Master’s degree from Relay Graduate School of Education (GSE) and ultimately a lead teaching position at the conclusion of the two-year program.


The role of the Resident will adjust based on the needs of the school partner, but duties and responsibilities include - though are not limited to:

-Developing a vision and commitment to successfully teaching students
-Ensuring student academic achievement and personal growth; highest need subjects include Elementary, English/Language Arts, Science, Math
-Developing teaching skills through consistent feedback and coaching
-Providing individual or small group instruction to students
-Assessing student progress and communicating progress to families and colleagues
-Developing plans and supporting administrative tasks in school
-Initiating personal learning and developing in the teaching profession
-Maintaining strong performance and professionalism within your school and as a Relay student


While a member of the Relay Teaching Residency you will receive a salary, benefits, and be working towards your Master of Arts in Teaching. Relay’s school partners serve as the employers of Relay Teaching Residents and provide Residents with salary and benefits. The average resident salary ranges between $25,000 - $35,000 in addition to potential support for the cost of your graduate education. Please note that Residents will be responsible for certification expenses including testing and tuition with Relay Graduate School of Education. While some school partners sponsor tuition, candidates can expect annual tuition of approximately $3,500 per year for two years.

Qualifications & Eligibility

Relay Teaching Residents must be passionate, committed to teaching in historically underserved schools, and eager to learn how to teach effectively. Additionally, Residents must demonstrate:

-Commitment to Relay’s core values of teamwork, equity, respect, responsibility, urgency and grit
-High level of professionalism
-Humility and desire to learn from others
-Unyielding commitment to the growth and development of your students and yourself
-Ability to work efficiently, independently and strategically
-Demonstrated passion for educational justice and closing the opportunity gap
-Desire and commitment to teach in a PK-12 setting for the long-term
-Education and non-education backgrounds are welcome
-Bachelor’s degree by May 2019 with a 3.0 GPA or higher preferred; 2.75 minimum
-Authorization to work in the U.S.
-Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.

Relay Teaching Residents will need to be hired by a participating Relay school partner and pass requisite teaching tests (e.g. TExES, Praxis, etc.) before starting the program.
