POSITION TITLE & GRADE: Teacher (Special Education) CY-1710 11-01 to 17-18

The SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER is responsible for providing services to exceptional children with multi-handicaps using professional teaching methods and techniques in a school setting. The Special Education Teacher maintains a consistent recordkeeping system for each referral leading to the child’s assessment, education programs and progress. Designs and assists in the implementation on an individual program for each child based on his/her needs and strengths. Provides training to instructional aides and general education teachers in working with these children and monitors the implementation of the program: assures involvement of parents in planning and implementation of the individualized Education Plan (IEP) and in skill level and develops weekly plans to be implemented by the assigned staff. He/she assist in the design, development and implementation of ancillary services in conjunction with the support staff and other teaching staff. The Special Education Teacher must prepare documents for IEP meetings, transition meetings and appointments. Input student’s IEP, attendance, student information into infinite Campus, Native American Student Information (NASIS). Incumbent is responsible for planning and implementing Extended School Year Program (ESY). May be assigned to coordinate, facilitate and implement various required assessments for School, State and Federal Programs. Will also participate in school committees and improvement teams, and meetings involving other staff, community members, and parents. The individual selected will be required, as an incidental duty, to operate a government-owned or leased vehicle in the performance of his/her duties

Placement in the appropriate pay level is based exclusively on education levels as follows:

Professional teachers must have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher with a license issued by State teacher licensure department in the appropriate teaching subject area (SPED), grade levels, and endorsement. License issued must be in the State where the position is located, which may include certifications issued by other states recognized by the State in its Teacher Certification Reciprocity Program. Alternative teacher license will not be accepted or substituted for professional teacher license. Emergency, provisional or conditional certificates may be accepted under the conditions they are issued by the State teacher licensure department.
State requirement for specialty endorsement is acceptable to teach the specialty subject such as Drivers Education.

Good distant vision in one eye and ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters are required, glasses permitted. Ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, is required except that some positions may be suitable for persons who are blind or deaf. In most instances, an amputation of arm, hand, leg or foot will not disqualify an applicant for appointment, although it may be necessary that this condition be compensated by use of satisfactory prosthesis. In addition, applicants must have mental and emotional stability.

All applicants for this position will be rated and ranked based upon the extent and quality of their experience, training and/or education as reflected on the application. Applicants will be further evaluated according to the degree to which they possess or have the potential to acquire knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal characteristics as listed below. The judgment of qualifications will be based on the material submitted; therefore, it is to the applicant’s advantage to give complete and thorough responses and to present information in a neat and orderly fashion. Qualifications and veteran’s preference eligibility will be determined on the basis of information submitted.

A background security investigation is required. Appointment is subject to the successful completion of the security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

• Applicant is subject to a favorable background investigation. This is a Non-Critical, Moderate Risk Position subject to a favorable adjudicated background investigation.
• Subject to probationary period for equivalent to two (2) academic years, which may be extended.
• A Pre-Employment Physical Examination will be required.
• The incumbent is required to drive a motor vehicle to conduct business at field locations. A valid State driver’s license is required. All applicants MUST submit a current GSA Form 3607, Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and Driving Record in order to receive consideration. Incumbent must possess a valid State Driver’s License. (For Bus Drivers Positions Only)
