Position Information

Stipend: $1,200 per week/round-trip transportation allowance up to $2,000
The National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Mathematical Sciences (DMS) aims to provide opportunities to enrich the training of graduate students in the Mathematical Sciences Graduate Internship Program. This program will provide an opportunity for mathematical sciences doctoral students to participate in internships at national laboratories, industry and other approved facilities. Participation in an internship will provide hands-on experience of the use of mathematics in a nonacademic setting. The internships are aimed at students who are interested in understanding the application of advanced mathematical and statistical techniques to "real world" problems, regardless of whether the student plans to pursue an academic or nonacademic career.

Appointed participants will receive a stipend allowance of $1,200 per week and round-trip transportation allowance up to $2,000 for authorized expenses. Participants are required to complete 10-weeks of participation between the months of May through September, 2018.

10-Week Internship: The internship is intended to introduce students to applications of mathematics outside of academia. The internships are intended for both students that plan to pursue careers in and outside of academia.
Students meeting the following conditions will be considered:

*Enrolled as a full-time graduate student at an accredited U.S. college or university during the 2017-2018 academic year.
Pursuing a doctoral degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics.

*Possess a cumulative graduate GPA of 3.30 or higher on a 4.00 scale, including fall 2016 grades.
Areas of Discipline: Algebra & Number Theory, Analysis, Applied Mathematics, Combinatorics, Computational Mathematics, Foundations, Geometric Analysis, Mathematical Biology, Probability, Statistics, Topology.
