10 Hour Shifts
$60,105.67 annual
To perform a wide variety of tasks in support of the law enforcement and crime prevention functions; to perform investigative work and other special assignments; and to perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the Police Department.
• Candidates must be not less than 21 years of age or more than 50 years of age.
• Lateral candidates must be not less than 21 years of age or more than 55 years of age.
• Candidates must be a U.S. Citizen (under the provisions of State Civil Service Law).

Education and Experience Requirements

Candidates must either:
1. possess an associate's, bachelor's, master's or doctorate's degree from an accredited college or university* with a grade point average of 2.0 or greater; or
2. have successfully completed 60 hours of college credit from an accredited college or university* in any subject, provided the calculation of hours successfully completed shall not include any remedial courses or course grades below "C"; or
3. have completed a minimum of 2 years of patrol and/or investigative experience as a full-time commissioned police officer plus successfully completed 30 hours of college credit from an accredited college or university* in any subject, provided the calculation of hours successfully completed shall not include any remedial courses or course grades below "C"; or
4. have completed a minimum of 2 years of active military duty with an honorable discharge plus successfully completed 30 hours of college credit from an accredited college or university* in any subject, provided the calculation of hours successfully completed shall not include any remedial courses or course grades below "C"; or
5. have completed a minimum of 2 years of full-time employment with the City of Mesquite Police Department, in a non-sworn position, plus successfully completed 30 hours of college credit from an accredited college or university* in any subject, provided the calculation of hours successfully completed shall not include any remedial courses or course grades below "C"; or
6. have completed a minimum of 3 years active military duty with an honorable discharge in the United States Armed Forces, the reserve components the United States Armed Forces, the Texas State Guard, or any combination thereof. Must have a High School Diploma or GED.

*An accredited college or university must be accredited by one of the following agencies:
1. Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
2. Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools
3. Middle States Commission on Higher Education
4. New England Association of Colleges and Schools
5. Higher Learning Commission - formerly North Central Association of Colleges and Schools
6. Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges
7. Western Association of Schools and Colleges
Coursework from a foreign college or university will also be accepted after being reviewed by an agency that is certified by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) to determine the course taken, credit received and letter grade earned.

Additional Requirements
• Candidate's vision must be at least 20/70 uncorrected in each eye, correctable to 20/20 in each eye with no color blindness.
• Candidates may not be certified as eligible if audio metric testing shows average hearing loss in their unaided better ear greater than 40 decibels (dB) at 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz when the audio metric devise is calibrated to ANSI Z24.5.
• Candidates must be mentally alert, have the ability to get along well with others, willing to perform assigned duties and responsibilities, be conscientious and dependable and in excellent physical condition.
• Candidates will be expected to participate in and pass a qualifying physical agility and medical examination, including drug testing.

The following will be disqualifying:
• Any illegal use of a controlled substance other than marijuana.
• Any use of marijuana which exceeds very limited experimentation or any experimentation within one (1) year immediately prior to testing.
• Any felony conviction.
