Position Information

20 hours flexible
Employment for Fall 2017. Must be flexible with meeting with students in a one-to-one setting. Dependent upon participant classification, this will take place weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly. Required to maintain confidentiality at all times. Assist participants in fulfilling their academic goals. Assist students to apply for scholarships and federal student aid (FAFSA). Assist students to successfully navigate the university system. Be able to identify student academic and personal needs and refer to the appropriate campus resources. If applicable, be able to identify when to assist the participant for a referral to tutoring. Complete typed progress reports within 48 hours of meeting with a participant and submit to the Mentor Coordinator. Attend a 2 1/2 day orientation before the semester begins. Attend all required bi-monthly training from 3:00pm-5:00pm on Fridays. Be able to work 20 hours a week. Mentors can be certified by the College of Reading & Learning Association if all requirements are met.
*Be responsible, dependable, honest and mature.
*Be friendly, patient and sensitive to the diversity of each student.
*Have passed all courses for the previous semester.
*Be classified a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student.
*Have attended main campus for at least one semester.
*Have knowledge of campus and community resources.
*Graduate students must maintain full time status of 9 hours and a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
*Undergraduate students must maintain full time status of 15 hours and a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
*Be committed to work for at least one full semester.
*$9.50 paid by the hour.
*Must have personal cellphone for contacting students.
