Position Information

20 hours flexible

If yes, then the TRIO Student Support Services Peer Mentor position is the right one for you!

-Must be flexible with meeting with students in a one-to-one setting.
- Required to maintain confidentiality at all times.
-Assist participants in fulfilling their academic goals, applying for scholarships and completing federal student aid (FAFSA).
- Assist students to successfully navigate the university system. Be able to identify student academic and personal needs and refer to the appropriate campus/community resources.
- Complete typed progress reports within 48 hours of meeting with a participant and submit to the Mentor Coordinator.
- Attend a 2 1/2-day orientation before the semester begins. --- Attend all required bi-monthly training from 3:00pm-5:00pm on Fridays.
-Be able to work 20 hours a week.
- Have the opportunity to become a nationally certified mentor by the College of Reading & Learning Association if all requirements are met.
-Be energetic and enthusiastic
-Be responsible, dependable, honest and mature.
-Be friendly, patient and sensitive to the diversity of each student.
- Be able to work independently
-Have passed all courses for the previous semester.
-Be classified as a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student.
-Have attended main campus for at least one semester.
-Have knowledge of campus and community resources.
-Graduate students must maintain full time status of 9 hours and a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
-Undergraduate students must maintain full time status of 15 hours and a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
-Be committed to work for at least one full semester.
-Must have personal cellphone for contacting students.
