Position Information

The Studio Programs Workstudy works up to 20 hours a week in a museum environment. This position is responsible for assisting the Studio Programs Coordinator in developing, preparing for, and facilitating the art classes provided through the Museum of Art. In addition, the Studio Programs workstudy will be responsible in assisting the Studio Programs Coordinator with maintaining the studio classrooms, this includes, but is not limited to: organizing art materials, ordering supplies, loading and unloading of the ceramics kiln, mixing glazes, and cleaning classrooms. The Studio Programs workstudy will be assigned a work station at the Museum of Art with the Studio Programs Coordinator. The Education Department spans these museums and Curators of Education, Education work studies, and other Education staff are cross-trained on the basic content of exhibitions and programs at all four museums. Education work studies will work on the planning and presentation of programs at large events at all four museums, as well as occasional off-site outreach programs. The Studio Programs workstudy will be responsible for generating project ideas with the Studio Programs Coordinator and will be expected to see projects through the conception, planning, and follow-up phases. The position offers flexible hours within a Tuesday-Saturday, 8-5 schedule, but Saturday work and occasional evenings will be required.
Open to students in Studio Art, Art History, Fine Art, Museum Conservation, or other major plus demonstrated experience in ceramics and using a kiln. The Studio Programs workstudy must be proficient in MS Office Suite. Student must have knowledge of, or willingness to learn, foundational concepts in informal education. This position requires a substantial degree of independent work and the ability to create and meet deadlines. Interest in, or knowledge of art, art history, or studio art is required. The Studio Programs position requires work with a number of museum staff and volunteers, along with members of the public. Qualified applicants must be able to communicate clearly with audiences of differing needs, interests, and abilities. Applicants must pass a background check, as required by the City of Las Cruces.

Preferred Qualifications: Meeting any of the preferred qualifications will afford an advantage to the applicant. These include coursework in fields related to museum subjects, including: education, art history, fine art, studio art, museum studies; or bilingual (Spanish/English) status.
