The Lab Associate’s primary responsibility is to ensure exceptional customer service for the NMSU students, faculty, and staff who visit the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) computer labs. The Lab Associate will assist with computer equipment and software use in the computer labs, classrooms, and computer cluster locations across campus. During each scheduled shift, the Lab Associate will be responsible for manning the main lab desk, checking out headphones, handing out Scantron scoring sheets, and monitoring the printers in all lab locations. While at work, the Lab Associate will clean workstations and furniture, keep inventory of supplies, and identify/troubleshoot issues with computers before escalating issues through the trouble ticket system. The Lab Associate is responsible for adhering to/enforcing lab policies and procedures, directly monitoring the computer labs, and creating a safe and welcoming environment for NMSU students, faculty, and staff. Other duties will include special assignments by the Lab Coordinator for the Student Technology & Planning department.

The Lab Associate position will report to the Computer Lab Coordinator for the Student Technology & Planning department within ICT.
Qualified applicants must have the following:
• Work schedule flexibility and availability to work nights and weekends during operational hours, which are typically seven days a week. Hours may range from 6 AM to 2 AM (during semesters).
• A valid driver’s license.
• NMSU Driving permit, which can be obtained after hiring. The permit is required so that the Lab Associate can drive NMSU vehicles, such as the golf carts used in the monitoring of the computing labs.
• NMSU ID, which is obtained once students are registered at NMSU.
• Attributes such as organizational skills, customer-orientation, and appreciation for cleanliness. Candidates must be punctual, responsible, and able to work both independently and in a team environment with minimal direct oversight.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office products, proper use of email communications, web searching, and experience using other software, such as Adobe Products is a plus.
• Experience and knowledge with basic computer troubleshooting (adjusting monitor cables, assemble cables to turn-on computer, resolve printer issues, etc.).
• Ability to learn new technology with ease.
• Ability to lift and move paper boxes and supplies up to 50 pounds.
