Position Information

M-F 20 hrs per week
This position is for Fall 2017 and/or Spring 2018 employment as a Peer Tutor with the STEM-H Student Support Services (SSS) program. The STEM-H program provides support services to students majoring in science, technology, engineering, math, and health disciplines, many of whom are first generation college students and/or come from low income households.

Peer Tutors will provide tutoring for academic assignments, assist in the development of study skills, assist with computer navigation and online tutorials, offer motivation and encouragement, help with exam preparation, and maintain careful records of tutoring sessions.
*Have expertise in any science, math, engineering, or health sciences college subject areas.
*Be committed to work for at least one full semester.
*Have received a 3.0 GPA in the subject selected for tutoring/Overall GPA of 3.0.
*Have passed all courses for the previous semester.
*Be classified as a junior, senior, or graduate student.
*Maintain part-time enrollment of at least 6 credit hours and a 3.0 cumulative GPA (for undergraduate students) or maintain part-time time status of 6 hours and a 3.0 cumulative GPA (graduate students)
*Be responsible, dependable, honest, and mature.
*Be friendly, patient, and sensitive to the diversity of each student.
*Have attended the main campus for one semester
*Have a personal cell phone for contacting students.

Preference is given to those who have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the project’s target population.

Additional consideration is given to applicants majoring in science, technology, engineering, math, or health fields.
