Position Information

Crew Leader positions available with the Student Conservation Association (SCA)

National Crew Leaders
Lead, motivate, inspire and guide High School Conservation crews in more than 100 spectacular national parks, forests and refuges across the US. SCA offers qualified applicants the opportunity to guide volunteer crews during the summer in the backcountry or frontcountry while supporting land management agencies such as, the National Park Service and the USDA Forest Service.

Your SCA crew may:
•Construct and maintain trails through parks and forests
•Build bridges and shelters
•Repair walls and stone steps
•Improve and conserve wildlife habitats

To be a Leader, you must have a strong interest and experience teaching and/or working with youth, be able to maintain a positive work environment and have relevant outdoor experience (living and/or working). Positions are available throughout the United States and open to ages 21+.

Community Crew Leaders
Lead, mentor and coach crews of high school students, ages 15-18, during the Summer. Crew Leaders will train and supervise teams of students through the completion of much needed conservation service projects in cities and community parks. Leaders will plan weekly field trips designed to build community understanding and environmental stewardship with participants.

A Community Crew Leader should have experience teaching or working with urban youth, be able to maintain a positive work environment and have relevant outdoor experience (living and/or working). Community Program positions available in various cities nationwide and open to ages 21+.
Basic Qualifications:

* Outdoor experience
* Conservation service experience, specific or general
* Experience working with youth and/or young adults
* Demonstrated leadership experience
* Medical certification - Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness First Responder, or Basic First Aid, dependent upon position
* Valid driver’s license (required for most positions)
* Ability to pass SCA’s criminal background check

Desired Qualifications:

In addition to the basic qualifications, competitive applicants also have experience working with agency partners, have a great work ethic, are good role models and teachers, and are excited for new experiences and adaptable to change. SCA Field Leaders are outdoor professionals who make important decisions daily regarding the safety and well-being of their members.
