We offer two options to pursue graduate study in environmental education. The Education for Environment and Community program, offered in partnership with the University of Washington, and the Urban Environmental Education program, offered in partnership with Antioch University – Seattle.

The Education for Environment and Community program, believes that a more sustainable future demands knowledgeable, committed, and reflective educators. Each year, our graduate students explore the power of education, environment, and community while guiding hands-on learning experiences in a spectacular natural setting for a diverse population of elementary school students, mostly from nearby Seattle. Together we help our participants and each other see the world with an expanded sense of possibility, compassion, and understanding.

Urban Environmental Education requires an approach to education that embraces the ecological complexity of the city, respects and responds to cultural diversity and attends to the forces of equity and justice in relation to environmental issues. We believe that education has the power to transform the ways that people live in urban areas by cultivating environmental knowledge, leadership and collective action. We are preparing educators to work with urban youth and communities to build thriving, healthy and sustainable places to live.
