The Desktop Support Intern is responsible for providing technical assistance and support to the Information Technology Department and end-users.

The focus of this job is on producing consistent, accurate and high quality technical work based on established systems, standards, and procedures. Job knowledge and competency is built through structured training and coaching from management and peers. Helpful, supportive communication with others is based on knowledge of job routines and procedures gained from experience.

Key Responsibilities and other duties as assigned:

• Provides desk side and remote technical assistance during regular business hours using the Pocket Nurse® IT Help Desk System to log, update and close-out when an issue is resolved.
• Assists personnel of all departments as a computer resource.
• Responds promptly to alerts and end-user issues via phone, in person or electronically.
• Supports end-user operating systems, computing platforms, mobile devices, printing and miscellaneous hardware.
• Diagnoses and resolves technical hardware and proprietary software issues within the scope of responsibilities.
• Defines, escalates, and follows up on complex issues to the appropriate IT team member to ensure the problem is resolved.
• Installs, configures, and supports Pocket Nurse approved desktops, laptops, virtual workstations, mobile phones, and other devices.
• Installs, configures, and supports operating systems, enterprise business applications, and miscellaneous software applications.
• Installs, configures, and supports copiers, printers, scanners and other peripheral hardware.
• Installs, configures, and supports network connectivity to conference rooms and various audio/visual equipment.
• Helps onboard new users by providing computer, copier, scanner, and phone orientation.
• Responsible for issuing and maintaining inventory of IT related equipment, software and software licenses including monitors, thin clients, keyboards, mice, printers, servers, etc. and notifying appropriate individuals when inventory is below needed stock levels.
• Prepares activity reports.
• Stays current with system information, changes and updates.
• Provides support to IT team members for project implementation and maintenance as needed.
• Adheres to departmental standards while maintaining a highly professional service level that is courteous and knowledgeable to all IT skill levels of their internal customers.
• Maintains confidentiality of information being processed, stored or accessed by the network.

This role requires the individual to be able to understand moderately complex problems, collaborate and explore alternative solutions, and remember, apply or communicate moderately complex instructions and information with individuals of all levels of IT experience and knowledge; organize and prioritize thoughts, ideas, and own work schedule; apply common sense, analyze and make decisions which have moderate impact on the immediate work unit and corporate level systems and operations; express written and spoken word for internal communications and complete routine and basic forms, letters, and reports; and compute, analyze and interpret basic statistical data for reporting purposes.

Education:

• Pursuing an Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Information Technology with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
o Able to provide a copy of college transcripts upon request.
• Prefers a student with an expected graduation date of Spring 2018.
• Available for 40 hours/week during summer months.


Skills and Experience:

• Experience with VMware or remote desktop technology.
• Strong computer knowledge including proficiency with MS Office, Windows OS, hardware, software, and internet technology.
• Ability to learn new technologies and expand knowledge of internal systems.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and research information quickly for solutions.
• Excellent customer service and written and verbal communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive work relationships with all levels of individuals in a company.
• Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
• Highly motivated with the ability to work under minimal supervision.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to collaborate and solve problems.
• Strong Attention to detail.
• Proficient with LAN/WAN hardware administration or Brocade Networking; SharePoint a plus.
• Experience with ShoreTel phone systems a plus.
• Experience with Spice Works a plus.
• Knowledge of HTML, PHP, CMS and Progress a plus.
