Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program Info Session

Presented by:
Matthew Turner, Information & Cultural Affairs
Consulate General of Japan - Portland

Are you interested in living, working, teaching and learning in Japan? If so, attend the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) general information session hosted on campus. The JET Program provides college graduates a unique opportunity to teach English to students in the Japanese public school system. The program helps to develop foreign language education in Japan, and to promote international exchange at the local level through fostering ties between Japanese youth and JET Program participants from around the world.

There are two positions offered by the JET Program. Individuals selected to serve as Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs) will be placed in the offices of prefectural governments, cities and towns throughout Japan. Individuals selected to serve as Assistant Language Teachers (ALT) will be placed in public schools or local boards of education. No Japanese language requirement for the ALT position!! For more information about JET and to access the application, visit: https://jetprogramusa.org/.

Applicants Must:

- have U.S. citizenship (or hold citizenship in one of the other 46 participating countries)

- hold a bachelor's degree by July 2018

DEADLINE TO APPLY: To Be Announced (TBA) but is typically early-to-mid-November (applications must be received at the Embassy by this time).

*Career Center tip: JET has a competitive and thorough application process --you'll want to get started early.
